Hi -

ASUS M4A78-EM Mother Board
8GB DDR2 RAM (4x2GB Kingston Hyper-X DDR2)
AMD Phenom II x4 940 Processor 3000MHZ
Intel SSD 330 Series 240GB
Cooler Master GX-550W

I ran the USB-FIx which you posted from insanely Mac and have tried running it with both
Code: Select all
<key>USBLegacyOff</key>
	<string>No</string>
and
Code: Select all
<key>USBLegacyOff</key>
	<string>Yes</string>
In both cases, the USB loader opens correctly with Graphics etc. I hit enter on the USB disk for boot and then it goes to grey and white screen and stops at:

[ ACPI PATCHER ]
Adding booter spec .... Etc
Attempting to loading drivers from "Extra" repository:
Attempting to loading drivers from standard repositories:
-Third party extensions search path: /Library/Extensions
-Apple extensions search path: /System/Library/Extensions
ECHI controller [1002:4396] at 00:12.2 DMA @fe8ff800

It then just hangs there. Should I be using a different set of boot flags?

These are the ones i am using :
(USBLegacyOff is the last one in the list and is the one i have been changing from No to Yes)
Code: Select all
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
	<key>BooterConfig</key>
	<string>0x28</string>
	<key>CsrActiveConfig</key>
	<string>103</string>
	<key>EthernetBuiltIn</key>
	<string>Yes</string>
	<key>Kernel Flags</key>
	<string>UseKernelCache=No -v -f npci=0x3000</string>
	<key>USBBusFix</key>
	<string>Yes</string>
	<key>USBLegacyOff</key>
	<string>Yes</string>
</dict>
</plist>
I am no much of a hacker! Thank you for your help -

Try using this boot.plist,
Code: Select all
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
   <key>CsrActiveConfig</key>
   <string>163</string>
   <key>EthernetBuiltIn</key>
   <string>Yes</string>
   <key>Kernel Flags</key>
   <string>-v npci=0x3000</string>
   <key>USBBusFix</key>
   <string>Yes</string>
   <key>USBLegacyOff</key>
   <string>Yes</string>
</dict>
</plist>

Thank you Shanee,

I have tried with the new boot.plist you posted, with ncpi=0X2000 and ncpi=0x3000 and it gets stuck at the same place still.

This is what i get:

Hit enter then:
IMG_3205.JPG
IMG_3205.JPG (2.1 MiB) Viewed 295 times
If you zoom into the picture you can see the details such as UID=0, there's no DSDT - i have no idea what that all means, but hopefully it helps!

Is it worth walking through a whole load of tests of different combinations of boot flags?

Thank you!

Can you upload your whole Extra folder in zip format please.

It looks ok to me. Try removing the Extensions.mkext file and try to boot with UseKernelCache=No

Thank you Shaneee -

It gets a bit further - the picture shows a couple of extra lines - switching legacy USB off.

I have tried booting from each separate USB port (there are 8) with same result on each port.

With boot.plist looks like this now:
Code: Select all
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
   <key>CsrActiveConfig</key>
   <string>163</string>
   <key>EthernetBuiltIn</key>
   <string>Yes</string>
   <key>Kernel Flags</key>
   <string>-v npci=0x2000 UseKernelCache=No</string>
   <key>USBBusFix</key>
   <string>Yes</string>
   <key>USBLegacyOff</key>
   <string>Yes</string>
</dict>
</plist>
Thank you!

Hmm the boot.plist could be corrupt. Try this one. Note I've removed the USB flags for now till we see if it gets past the bootloader,

Thank you Shaneee -

I deleted the boot.plist from the Extra folder on the USB drive and dragged the new boot.plist across.

That seemed to get things along quite a bit further.

I have been editing the boot.plist with Smultron - perhaps that is part of the problem?

If so, what should i use to make edits - and based on the stage it reaches now what flags would you recommend setting?

Thank you!

On Windows use Notepad++ and on OS X I use Text Wrangler.

Try to change the npci=0x3000 to npci=0x2000 if that doesn't work try PCIRootUID=1
